Garrison Park – Modesto Area 2 Storm Drain

RRM Design Group was selected to prepare a 35% Design Report to develop innovative and cost effective methods for reducing flooding and removing sanitary sewer cross connections in northwest Modesto. RRM evaluated numerous options to convey, clean, store, and dispose of the runoff from the approximately 160 acre tributary area. RRM and the City chose a Low Impact Development solution, which included collecting, treating, and infiltrating stormwater at four existing neighborhood parks. The project was a collaboration between RRM’s internal team of Engineers, Surveyors, Landscape Architects, and Planners, as well as the City’s Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Water Department, and Maintenance Departments. The project is in a severely disadvantaged area of Modesto and provides rehabilitation to some of the oldest parks in the City. The project is consistent with the local IRWM and is listed as a priority project. The City of Modesto retained RRM to prepare construction documents for Phase One, Garrison Park. Phase one removed two cross connection, 15 rockwells, and constructed a centralized pre-treatment device, five acre foot underground retention basin, permeable concrete paving, and renovations to the park including new turf, baseball field, and basketball court.
