La Mirada Objective Design Standards
The City of La Mirada takes a thoughtful and proactive approach to city planning and community development. As part of its 6th Cycle Housing Element implementation, the City engaged RRM Design Group to support the development and refinement of Objective Design Standards (ODS) that ensure new construction aligns with State housing requirements while preserving La Mirada’s architectural character. For multi-family and mixed-use housing, RRM conducted a comprehensive review of the City’s municipal code, completed an architectural site tour, and created graphics to clearly illustrate the standards related to building and site design for future development. RRM also reviewed and provided input on the City’s Single-Family Objective Design Standards and Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Ordinance. To further assist residents and applicants, RRM prepared a Design Guidelines User Guide and a Single-Family Submittal Checklist to support those pursuing room additions or constructing ADUs. Together, these efforts strengthen La Mirada’s ability to guide thoughtful, compliant, and context-sensitive development.
