Central Coast New Tech High School

New Tech High School is a magnet school based on a collaborative project-based learning model. The Lucia Mar facilities staff was challenged to provide the needed unique classroom space to support the program in time for the fall 2012 school schedule. The District identified a pre-engineered and approved modular classroom as the only feasible way to meet the challenge for new space, as well as renovation of an existing agricultural mechanics shop building into offices and classroom space. The District also established the goal that the New Tech High School campus would be a model for energy-efficient and healthy buildings. RRM developed an approach to development and DSA approval of the plans that fast-tracked the modular building so fabrication could begin as soon as the plans were approved by DSA. In order to stretch the District’s funds as far as possible, much of the renovation portion of the project was self-performed by the District. RRM also assisted the District in pursuing and obtaining LEED certification.
