We have some exciting news to share! After nearly two decades of impactful and visionary leadership, Erik Justesen will be transitioning from his role as CEO. Beginning July 1, Lief McKay will be stepping into the role as RRM’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Erik has been an incredible leader of RRM Design Group since 2006, guiding the firm through economic downturns, multiple mergers and acquisitions, and the transition to becoming an employee-owned firm. He’s been honored as San Luis Obispo’s Citizen of the Year, and he’s not only a respected leader, but also a trusted colleague and beloved friend to many at RRM and throughout our wider community. His vision and commitment have helped shape RRM into the mission-driven firm it is today. Erik will continue to serve as a Managing Partner at RRM, remaining deeply engaged in our work and leadership.

RRM has had only two CEOs in its 50-year history. Just as Vic Montgomery (the “M” in RRM) continued to shape the firm after his tenure as CEO, Erik’s influence will remain a strong and steady part of RRM’s future.

Now, as we welcome our third-ever CEO, we’re excited about what’s ahead. Lief McKay brings a deep well of experience, perspective, and passion to this role. Having started at RRM as an intern more than 25 years ago, Lief has seen firsthand how the firm has evolved. His understanding of our culture, clients, and purpose makes him uniquely equipped to guide us into this next phase. We are confident that this transition marks yet another phase of growth and focus for RRM, shaped by Lief’s steady and thoughtful leadership.
