Oroville Centennial Plaza

The City of Oroville retained RRM Design Group to lead a public facilitation process and create a vision plan for the Feather River frontage of historic downtown Oroville. The plan connects downtown Oroville with the river via a riverfront walkway, a series of scenic overlooks, and the newly constructed Centennial Plaza, which celebrates the 100 year history of the town. To blend interpretive design and landscape architecture, RRM designed the circular plaza that features an array of standing stones that create a passage to signify the river below the plaza. Cast bronze models of salmon are mounted on the stones and flow through the space. Embedded in the plaza paving are time flow markers made out of cut stainless steel that record the important events in Oroville’s history. Together, these elements tell the story of Oroville and its relationship with the Feather River. The plaza sits within a small park bordered by the riverfront walk that will be extended the full length of the town.
