San Luis Obispo’s new emergency communication center (ECC) has been highlighted as one of the success stories for the Strong Cities Strong State campaign. The ECC was completed in 2010 with RRM providing architectural, landscape architecture and civil engineering services from programming through construction administration. The original center was located in the basement of the existing police station, with no windows and out-of-date equipment. The new ECC houses 6 call takers/radio dispatchers on a tiered dispatch floor. There are offices for the dispatch supervisors, ECC manager and police officers. The new center offers controlled natural daylight through picture windows, a secured patio and break room, the latest technology for ECCs, energy efficiency and a controlled environment for personnel and equipment.
