Los Angeles Fire Station No. 77

Sun Valley, CA

RRM Design Group designed Los Angeles Fire Station No. 83 in Encino, California, using the prototype of Station No. 77 (which RRM also designed) for program space requirements, space adjacencies, and operational requirements. The new three-company 14,899 sf Fire Station replaced an obsolete single company station nearby for $4.35 million.

This was the second LEED certified fire station project under the City’s Fire Bond Program. This project was instrumental in setting the design and operational goals for the rest of the anticipated Fire Bond projects. Some of the sustainable highlights include:

Improved Firefighter Working Conditions: The apparatus bays are equipped with skylights that saturate the space with natural daylight and Vehicle Exhaust Systems that connect directly to the apparatus exhaust pipes to capture exhaust.

Materials Manufactured Regionally: Over 40% of the materials used in the project are manufactured within 150 miles of the project with most coming from within the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Water Use Reduction: A 36% reduction in water use has been achieved by the installation of reduced flow fixtures for sinks, lavatories, and showers.

Durable, Renewable Casework, Wall Panels, and Toilet Partitions: The department has a need for extremely durable materials. Trespa composite panels (made from 70% cellulose, rapidly renewable, extremely durable wood fibers) were selected for the wainscoting, cabinetry, countertops, wardrobe lockers, shower wall panels, and toilet partitions.
