Burton Mesa Public Safety Center/Lompoc Fire Sheriff

The County of Santa Barbara hired RRM Design Group to provide complete design and contract administration services for a new joint use fire/sheriff station for the Santa Barbara County Fire and Sheriff Departments. The new 12,500 sf facility will replace the aging and inadequate Fire Station 51 and Sheriff substation buildings located nearby the project site. RRM went through an extensive programming phase with the County to ensure the new facility would meet the space needs for each department while staying within the County’s budget. The result is a building design that efficiently integrates the different space, technology and operational needs of each department, while providing opportunities for shared spaces such as the workout room and conference room. Situated adjacent to the Burton Mesa Nature Preserve, the project was designed to respect the surrounding terrain in its massing, materials and landscape, and will include a Burton Mesa Preserve Interpretive Center display area in its Lobby. This will be the first combined fire/sheriff station in Santa Barbara County and will be viewed as a pilot for future projects.
